The things people most want to know before their first visit.

  • What is the John F. Barnes Approach® to Myofascial Release?

It's a specialized form of Myofascial Release that uses gentle, sustained pressure to release restrictions in the fascial system. Unlike massage or stretching, each hold lasts long enough for fascia to soften and release naturally, allowing improved movement and decreased pain.

  • What is fascia?

Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue surrounding every muscle, nerve, blood vessel, bone, and organ. Healthy fascia is flexible. Injury, surgery, inflammation, repetitive stress, or trauma can cause it to tighten, often contributing to pain far from the original site.

  • How is this different from massage?

Massage primarily works muscles for relaxation, usually with repetitive strokes. This approach targets the fascial system with sustained pressure, and every treatment follows your body's restrictions rather than a routine sequence.

  • What conditions may benefit?

People seek Myofascial Release for chronic neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, TMJ dysfunction, fibromyalgia, sciatica, shoulder, hip, and pelvic pain, plantar fasciitis, scoliosis, scar tissue after surgery, sports injuries, chronic tightness, limited mobility, and persistent pain that hasn't improved with other treatments.

  • Will treatment hurt?

Most techniques are gentle. As restrictions release you may feel temporary discomfort, stretching, or warmth. Treatment is always adjusted to your comfort level.

  • Why might emotions come up during treatment?

The fascial system responds to both physical and emotional stress, so unexpected emotions occasionally surface as restrictions release. For some people this is a normal part of healing, and it happens in a safe, supportive environment.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Healing is different for everyone. Some people notice improvement within one to three sessions; longstanding or complex conditions often benefit from ongoing care. Your evaluation includes an honest conversation about realistic expectations.

  • Should I keep seeing my healthcare providers?

Yes. Myofascial Release complements your medical care, it does not replace it. Continue following your physician's recommendations.

  • Is this covered by insurance?

Missal Wellness is a cash-based practice, and payment is due at the time of service. Depending on your plan, a superbill may allow you to request out-of-network reimbursement.
